Cappadocia or Capadocia, (Turkish Kapadokya) is a vast plateau in Turkey dominated by the extinct volcano – Erciyesdagi. It is a region of exceptional natural wonders characterized by fairy chimneys and a unique historical and cultural heritage.

The landscape was formed by the erosion of the volcanic soil which over the centuries created bizzare conical hills in a range of colours – yellow, violet, red and pink.

People have carved dwellings in the rocks for centuries which, because of their thick walls, are cool in summer and warm in winter.
